History

The Hotel was built on what once was the dairy farm of
former President Alfredo Gonzales Flores. His
presidency fom 1914 to 1917, was the outstanding
exercise on economic and fiscal matters, mostly
prompted by the crisis created by WW1.
In 1986 Hotel Chalet Tirol opened doors with European
chefs, recruited in France and offering French Gourmet
Cuisine since that time. The culinary reputation has
grown steadily over the years, having now one of the
finest French Gourmet Cuisine restaurants in the
country. Here you will find the best of the “gourmet
cuisine” in a charming setting that will compliment your
dinner experience. Just mention Hotel Chalet Tirol and
watch people react with warm smiles. The quality of our
dishes is so excellent that we are the only restaurants in
Central America awarded with the membership of the
oldest French Gourmet Association “Le Chaine des
Rotisseurs”.
Tirol’s first incursion in “Ecoturism” was The Wild Flower
and Naturalistic Tour, with a group from the National
Wildflower Research Center of Austin TX., in 1989.
Lady Byrd Johnson, founder of the association, was part
of the group.
Recently the Earth Council and the Fetzer Institute of
Kalamazoo, Michigan made a seminar on “Pueblos
Indigenas, Madre Tierra y Espiritualidad”. Also on Nov
97 we hosted the 3rd Meeting Ozone/LAC Network, a
preparatory meeting for the 8th Conferences of the
Parties of the Montreal Protocol and the 4th Conference
of the Parties to the Vienna Convention.
Also, we have been honored with very important visitors,
like the King of Belgique, many Central and South
American presidents, important dignitaries of the US
Government, filmmakers and actors like John Amos,
Julie Carmen, Esai Morales and Piedad Palacios from
the Robert Redford Sundance Institute.
We would like to quote from a note sent by a fine
gentleman who shared our dream and enjoyed our
hospitality. Mr. David Rockefeller wrote: “We were
also impressed to learn what you are doing with this
beautiful piece of property you purchased some years
ago in the mountains above San Jose. It is a lovely spot
and have certainly developed in a very tasteful way”.
